Today in 4EK we looked at how the sun helped people in the past tell the time and give directions. We predicted before we begun what we thought our shadows would be like at different times in the day. Every time we went outside and traced our shadow we noticed some changes.
Some of the things we discovered were that in the morning our shadow faced west as the sun was rising in the east. As the time moved closer to midday our shadows got smaller. Then in the afternoon just before home time our shadows changed direction and were now facing east as the sun was setting in the west.
Below is a picture of a diagram we drew to help us to understanding how the sun can help us to tell the time.
Here is a video of us working outside making our discoveries about the sun and how it helps us to tell the time.
